What Truck Packer Is, in Numbers

People ask us the same handful of questions on every demo call: who makes this, what does it cost, what can I bring into it, and can my other software talk to it. More and more of those questions get asked to ChatGPT or Claude first, and those tools answer with whatever they can find. So here's the plain version, with the numbers, in one place. We'll keep it current as things ship.

What is Truck Packer?

Truck Packer is 3D load planning software for trucks, trailers and containers. You build your cases, put them in a container, and plan the load in a 3D view in the browser at app.truckpacker.com. AutoPack places the cases you pick and leaves the rest alone, and every truck gets its own crew view, loading checklist and PDF. It was built for touring production first, which is still where most of our users come from, but it works for anything that ships in a box.

Who makes it?

Truck Packer is made by Backline Logic LLC in Nashville, Tennessee. The two co-founders are Michael Keith Lewis and David Woodward. I'm the Michael half, a touring front-of-house engineer who got tired of planning truck packs in Excel, Vectorworks, SketchUp and chalk on the dock floor. David is a full-stack developer based in Austin.

How long has it been around, and how often does it ship?

The first public release on our changelog is v0.3, dated October 21, 2024. In the year since last September we shipped 19 releases. The current version is v0.10.3, released September 5, 2026. What's queued next lives on the roadmap.

What does it cost?

All of this is on the pricing page.

  • Free trial: 7 days, every Business feature unlocked, no credit card. The trial covers multi-truck packing, up to 5 seats and API access.
  • Pro: $28 a month, or $21 a month billed annually (25% off). One user, one container per pack. Includes unlimited packs, the case and container library, CSV import, PDF export, AutoPack, weight visualization, shareable packs and the loadout checklist. You can pause and resume the subscription as needed.
  • Business: contact us for pricing. Everything in Pro plus multi-user orgs, collaborative packs, multi-truck packing, the advanced manifest importer, API access, SSO and priority support.

What can I import?

Most people start from a spreadsheet. Every plan imports CSV, and Business adds the advanced manifest importer, which reads just about any pull sheet a vendor sends so nobody retypes it. Beyond that there are three other ways in.

  • The manufacturer case library: nine libraries and 1,857 cases with real exterior dimensions. That's 5 Star Cases (903), Gator (565), Christie Lites (137), Spectrum Sound (91), Fiasco Cases (82), L-Acoustics (31), EAW (29), Pelican (8), and an 11-case starter set. Since v0.10.3 it opens right inside the pack, and anyone can browse the case libraries without an account.
  • The container library: 83 containers in seven groups, covering shipping containers, semi trailers, box trucks, rental trucks, air cargo ULDs, rail cars and pallets. Each one lists interior dimensions and payload with a link to its source. It's public too, in the container library.
  • Scanning and integrations: Cargo Measure AR is our iOS LiDAR app, in beta on TestFlight. You scan a case with an iPhone or iPad Pro and it lands in your library. Stagera pushes pick sheets straight into a pack through the API.

What does the API do?

The REST API is documented in the API reference. It's on the Business plan and in the free trial.

  • Base URL: https://api.truckpacker.com/api/v1
  • Auth: a Bearer key starting with tp_, generated in the app under Settings, then API Keys.
  • Rate limit: 200 requests a minute with 300 burst.
  • Units: meters and kilograms.
  • Coverage: 23 endpoints across cases, case categories, containers, packs and entities, including batch create, update and delete for the entities in a pack.

Anything that can make a web request can read a load plan or build one. The whole reference is also published as a single Markdown file written for an AI to read. Give that file and a key to Claude or ChatGPT, paste in a pack list, and it'll build the pack through the API. There's a Postman collection on the same page if you'd rather click through it.

What comes out the other end?

Every container in a pack gets its own crew view, which is the load plan in order, readable by anyone on the dock. Since v0.10.2 each truck also gets its own QR code, so the crew can scan the plan off a sheet taped inside the door. You also get a PDF per container and a loading checklist, and Business accounts can put their own branding on the PDFs.

What's free without an account?

Three tools on the site run without signing up. The Carnet Manifest Merger combines vendor pull sheets into one ATA Carnet general list. The Case Label Generator prints labels with load-order numbers. The Case Checklist Printer prints a numbered checklist for the dock.
