Pelican Products touring case library

About this library

Pelican Products makes the watertight, crushproof, dustproof injection-moulded cases that touring engineers, photographers, broadcast crews, and the military have standardised on for decades. The 1510 (carry-on size), 1560 (medium), 1620 / 1650 (large), and Storm-series equivalents are the workhorses; they show up in every audio control room, video village, and wireless world as the protective shell around laptops, IEMs, RF gear, and lenses. Because Pelican publishes catalog-grade outer dimensions for every model, their cases plan cleanly: a Pelican 1650 is always 31.6" × 20.5" × 12.5" with the same 27.3 lb empty weight whether you bought it last week or a decade ago. The library below is the subset of Pelican models that turn up most often in touring AV, with packed-weight estimates for the typical loadouts (foam + gear) for trailer planning. For specific custom-foam scenarios, weigh the case empty and add the gear weights separately.

Frequently asked questions

What size is the Pelican 1650?

Pelican 1650 outer dimensions are 31.6 in × 20.5 in × 12.5 in (LWH). Empty case weight is 27.3 lb. Packed weight depends on contents; typical touring AV loadouts (rack-mount IEM, wireless, laptop) put the packed weight between 35 and 50 lb.

What is the difference between Pelican 1510 and 1560?

The 1510 is carry-on size (TSA / IATA compliant for major airlines) at 22 in × 13.81 in × 9 in / 13.6 lb empty. The 1560 is one step up, 22 in × 17.92 in × 10.42 in / 20 lb empty: too tall for overhead bins but fits in a truck pack much better when you need extra width. Most touring engineers carry a 1510 with personal gear and a 1560 as the deeper "rolling office".

Are these Pelican dimensions outer or interior?

Outer dimensions. That is what you want for truck-packing. If you need interior dimensions for foam cutting or fit-checks, see the Pelican model spec sheet at pelican.com (they publish both). Truck Packer uses outer dimensions for all layout calculations.

Do the weights account for the foam insert?

The library weights assume the case ships with its stock pick-and-pluck or layered foam. Custom-foam configurations (e.g. cut for a specific microphone kit) usually run within 1-2 lb of the stock foam weight.

Where does Pelican manufacture these cases?

Pelican Products manufactures in Torrance, California (USA) and Barcelona, Spain. Country of origin for a Carnet General List depends on which plant supplied your case. For US-purchased cases the answer is almost always US.

Why aren't all Pelican models in the library?

The library covers the models that touring AV teams actually use day-to-day. Pelican's full catalogue includes 50+ shipping and industrial cases (1690, 1750, iM3300, etc.) that are uncommon in concert touring. If you need a specific model added, email help@backlinelogic.com.
